The St. Louis Rams and Indianapolis Colts have historically traded blows, with each team alternating blowout wins. Last season the Colts dropped 38 points on the Rams, who could only muster three points in the backyard whipping. Last Sunday, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck wrote the latest chapter in his come-from-behind-victory saga, leading Indianapolis to three touchdowns (all to T.Y. Granted, Houston lost their head coach to a “mini stroke” at the half, so the Texans may have been distracted, but Luck’s accomplishment in taking the Colts to a 6-2 record was still impressive. They’ll also be looking to avoid losing four games in a row since they dropped seven NFL games at the end of the 2011 season.

Andrew Luck may have the #5 QBR according to ESPN, having gone 154-264 for 1,845 yards and 13 TDs, but Rams QB Sam Bradford has had a decent season of his own, having tossed 159-262 for 1,687 yards and 14 TDs. In terms of efficiency, Bradford’s numbers are only good enough for a #20 QBR, but in terms of raw stats, the Rams QB is doing just fine.
The Colts may have to do damage on the ground, then, where they actually outrank the Rams with the NFL’s 12th-rated rushing attack compared to the Rams’ 23rd. Through eight games the Colts are averaging 121.8 rushing yards, but that average has actually come down due to three weeks averaging only 88 yards on the ground. (Not?) surprisingly, Colts running back Trent Richardson hasn’t yet delivered on the promise the Colts saw in him when they traded for him in Week 3, but he may finally have that long-awaited breakout game if the Rams’ defense performs like it did last week in their losing effort against the Tennessee Titans.
