Las Vegas bookies and NFL fans alike expect today’s Tennessee Titans / Indianapolis Colts game to be one of the most lopsided games of Week 4. It’s seldom a good idea to bet against Andrew Luck at home, but the bigger story is the Titans quarterback situation, as Jake Locker is highly unlikely to play in today’s Titans Colts game live at 1pm EST on CBS.
Not that Jake Locker is the NFL’s best quarterback, but his likely absence is a big reason Vegas has Indianapolis as an eight-point favorite as you watch today’s Colts game live. It also doesn’t help that the Titans have been outscored 59-17 en route to losing their past two games after a season-opening win.
The specific history between the Tennessee and Indy doesn’t favor the Titans either. Going back to 2008, the Titans have lost 10 of the past 11 times these teams have met, and the Colts have won the past five.
So far this season the Titans are allowing just 170 passing yards per game, though teams have delivered against them in spurts. For instance, Dez Bryant gained more than 100 yards through the air in Tennessee’s loss to the Cowboys. The Colts’ Luck can be streaky at times as well, so if he gets hot at the right times as you watch today’s Colts game live, the Titans could be in for a long game.
Luck getting hot wasn’t perceived to be a possibility going into the season. The Colts offensive line has been bad for years, and before the season even began they lost some key players. The O-line has melded nicely, though, putting Luck on track to be sacked the fewest times of his career.
The Titans have had four sacks in each of two games, so they’ll pose a test for Luck and Co today. However, last week Luck completed passes to nine receivers, showing that he can unload it to a variety of players if he’s in a bind. He was also a perfect 6-for-6 on long passes, so he’s playing well when given time as well.
