The first Titanfall review scores for Xbox One are coming in this morning, just as Xbox One owners want to know whether the first post-launch blockbuster is worth their next-gen dollars. By all accounts it is. Although it’s still early and many reviewers are still digging into the game, the initial Titanfall review scores for Xbox One are averaging 87.59% according to GameRankings.
If Titanfall were in school, that score would equate to a solid B, maybe even a B+. In other words, Titanfall is an “above average” game as of this writing. (As future reviews come in, that average score will go up or down accordingly.) Considering the marketing efforts behind Titanfall, not to mention the hope Microsoft has put in Respawn’s first game as an Xbox One system-seller, an “above average” rating may not be good enough.
On the one hand, many students would be satisfied with a B+, as would many of their parents. In that sense, current Xbox One owners may have all the justification they need to buy Titanfall today considering these first Titanfall review scores for Xbox One. For them, these initial review scores are golden.
On the other hand, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has decimated the Xbox One at the point of sale, selling literally millions more consoles than Microsoft’s next-gen console. Titanfall represents the first major third-party post-launch release for either system, so many in the industry saw the game has a sort of bellweather for consumer sentiment toward the Xbox One.
The thinking went like this: if Titanfall review scores for Xbox One go through the roof, the game will help Microsoft move units in spite of the console’s $100 price premium over PS4. If they don’t, it’ll be the first real test of the Xbox One’s appeal to a new wave of gamers.
