If a free-to-play Mech game sounds like your cup of tea, Ubisoft’s got a whole pot of kick-ass coming this summer. Today the company announced it will bring AirMech Arena to Xbox Live in a few short months. The game is exclusive to Microsoft, but before Xbox One-owning Titanfall fans get excited about a new, free Mech game, understand that AirMech Arena is only coming to Xbox 360.
In addition, despite being billed as a “fast-paced” game, AirMech Arena is a real-time strategy (RTS) game, not a first- or third-person shooter. That doesn’t mean it can’t be entertaining and fun, but take the “fast-paced” reference in context. This isn’t going to be a twitchy experience.
AirMech Arena supports single-player, multiplayer cooperative and multiplayer competitive gameplay for teams of two to three players. Teamwork is vital to succeed in multiplayer as players must work together to defend their fortresses against an onslaught of enemies.
AirMech Arena takes place in a war-torn future where powerful weapons known as AirMechs dominate the battlefields. The fight isn’t for glory, but for scarce resources. Players command giant transforming robots and capture and protect bases while building colossal armies to fight waves of enemies.
As gamers conquer fortresses, they will unlock powerful units, pilots, items and AirMechs. As one might expect, the AirMechs and armies can also be customized to fit a player’s personal gameplay preferences.
AirMech Arena is being developed by Carbon Games. “AirMech has been our passion for the past several years,” said James Green of Carbon Games. “AirMech Arena was created from the ground up to be the ultimate RTS experience with a gamepad. The fast-paced action and depth of strategy brings console gamers a new experience we are confident they will enjoy.”
The Xbox 360 game is scheduled to receive a host of post-launch updates. According to Ubisoft, AirMech Arena will see regular updates as time goes on, including content drops such as new AirMechs, units, maps and events.
