Arma 2: Combined Operations has been billed as “the most realistic FPS on the planet.” When you’re up against arguably the rest of the world in terms of an over-saturated genre, that’s some pretty high praise — and from PC Gamer magazine, no less. I guess that’s what comes out of a PC game designed for military use, though.
The Arma series focuses on delivering the most accurate details of war, and in Arma 2: Combined Operations, you get more than your fair share of the realism. Included in the package is the full version of Arma 2 as well as the expansion Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. With an inventory system that includes more than 300 weapons; air-, land- and water-based vehicles of all classes; and a unique A.I. combat system, Arma 2: Combined Operations is designed to test gamers’ absolute wits and skills.
So what’s the plot? Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead takes place three years after the original game’s conflict in Chernarus, as a new flashpoint in the Green Sea region has forced coalition forces to quickly restore peace and prevent further civilian casualties. Players will enlist in various roles within the U.S. Army in the multiple-ending single-player game, then burst onto the multiplayer scene with the standard FPS multiplayer modes as well as a comprehensive mission editor.
