Ready to get your hands on DriveClub, a PS4 racing game that’s part of the PlayStation Plus October 2014 free games lineup? How about really getting your hands on it — and your feet? Thrustmaster has shipped the first force feedback wheel for PS4, the T300 RS, just in time for PS4 owners to race around the world of DriveClub with their friends.
The force feedback wheel for PS4 also supports other racing games, including Ubisoft’s The Crew, which is now in beta. Getting your hands on the PS4 force feedback wheel won’t come cheap, though. Thrustmaster’s T300 RS costs $399.99.
Thrustmaster’s T300 RS is compatible with PS3 and PC as well. The force feedback wheel doesn’t appear to be available on Amazon, though some of its supporting pieces are. You may want to check periodically to see if it’s back in stock.
The new force feedback wheel for PS4 includes a genuine brushless servo industrial Force Feedback motor (with frictionless action), combined with a new 1080-degree dual-belt system that keeps the force feedback smooth, quiet and responsive. The silence amid the force feedback is particularly nice, as it allows gamers to focus on their in-game performance rather than the noise of their controller.
The motor incorporates H.E.A.R.T (Hall Effect AccuRate Technology) and a contactless magnetic sensor to provide 65,536 values on the wheel’s steering. The T300 RS also features an internal memory and upgradable firmware so PS4 owners always have access to the latest improvements via the wheel’s PC compatibility.
The force feedback wheel can be easily interchanged between the PS4 and PS3 using a sliding switch on its base.
One of the coolest features is that the force feedback wheel for PS4 has a detachable wheel, adjustable pedal set and is completely modular. The detachable wheel is accomplished using a Quick Release system. The wheel measures 11 inches in diameter, with brushed metal central spokes. Its official PS4 buttons (PS, SHARE, OPTIONS) lets users access the system’s new social functions at any time.
The T300 RS weighs approximately 2.6 lbs, so it’s not like you’ll feel encumbered using it or even taking it to a friend’s house. The wheel’s entire circumference features reinforced textured rubber cladding, while two large sequential paddle shifters are attached to the wheel and are 100% metal. One nice feature to help the immersion level is that the wheel’s angle of rotation can be adjusted from 270 degrees to 1080 degrees depending on the type of vehicle being driven in the game.
The wheel is interchangeable with other Thrustmaster wheels such as the Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-on, the Ferrari GTE Wheel Add-on and the T500 RS GT Wheel).
As for the T300 RS’s pedals, the pedal set on this force feedback wheel for PS4 features metal pedals that are fully adjustable in both height and spacing. In fact, there are six different possible positions per pedal. The brake pedal even features progressive resistance.
The T300 RS is also compatible with the Base Fixed Paddle Shifters kit, allowing users to install stationary paddle shifters on the wheel’s base, Thrustmaster’s three-pedal pedal sets (T3PA and T500 RS) and the TH8A and TH8RS shifters.
