Disney Infinity Figures and Play Sets Overview Video

June 28, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

Disney Infinity Figures Toys Play SetsWe’ve taken a look at many of the Disney Infinity figures and play sets coming scheduled to ship with the game later this summer, including The Lone Ranger play set, the Cars play set, the Davy Jones figure and the Barbossa figure. In this video overview, we take a look at all of those Disney Infinity figures and play sets together, including Randy from Monsters Inc.

The difference between Disney Infinity figures and play sets is subtle but meaningful. A figure is just that: a single, solitary toy that will work with Disney’s forthcoming toys-to-life game. A play set on the surface seems to mean it simply includes multiple figures, which it does, but the magic of the play set actually takes place with the iconic clear-plastic toy that accompanies those figures.

That little see-through toy takes a shape that represents one or more recognizable icons from the respective franchise. In The Lone Ranger, the toy includes a badge, six-shooter and tomahawk; whereas in the Cars play set, the clear-plastic figure is the ever-recognizable Piston Cup. Within that toy is a chip that unlocks a franchise-themed game world for Disney Infinity, as well as some items for the game’s Toy Box mode.

Each world in Disney Infinity contains about six to eight hours of straight-ahead gameplay, with about 50% more if you decide to go on all the side quests. The Toy Box mode, meanwhile, is a total level-creator a la Forge for Halo or the entire game of LittleBigPlanet. The more play sets you buy, the more franchise-related unlockable items you have at your disposal for creating unique levels.

For instance, in The Lone Ranger play set you might unlock a jail, a train, some Western-themed level decorations or any number of appropriate items. In the Cars play set, on the other hand, you’ll unlock various race track elements, buildings from Radiator Springs and things of that nature.

If this video overview above makes you eager to see what other Disney Infinity figures and play sets will be available when the game ships for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U later this summer, browse the full run-down of all the Disney Infinity toys at Amazon.
