Speculation has run rampant that Electronic Arts is in cahoots with Microsoft, leading to EA executives actually stating that the second-largest game publisher doesn’t favor the Xbox One over the PS4 in any way. Still, today’s announcement from EA about the Need for Speed Rivals release date for both next-gen consoles is enough to make one wonder whether the statement was sincere.
In North America, Need for Speed Rivals will be in stores Nov. 22 for Xbox One, making it a day-and-date Xbox One launch title. The PlayStation 4 will get the game on the same day, even though the PS4 release date is one week earlier, on Nov. 15. In Europe, the game will be available starting Nov. 22 on Xbox One. It will ship on Nov. 29 for PS4 in the EU.
Need for Speed Rivals is also coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, for those gamers who opt to hold off on buying a next-gen system. The Need for Speed Rivals release date for current-gen systems is Nov. 19 in North America and Nov. 22 in Europe.
Need for Speed Rivals — which we awarded our Best Racing Game of E3 2013 award — puts gamers behind the wheel of both sides of the law, daring them to cross the line as either a cop or racer in order to gain any advantage in the street’s ultimate rivalry. Players will choose between two distinct career experiences, each with their own set of high-stakes challenges, rewards, pursuit tech and cars.
The intensity of the action is at an all-time high thanks to AllDrive, a revolutionary new feature that destroys the line between single player, co-op and multiplayer. Through AllDrive, friends will be seamlessly connected to one racing world where their races and chases can collide at any time, creating the ultimate edge-of-your seat experience.
