Well, the rumors are true: gamers who buy a specially labeled version of Crackdown will be able to download and play the Halo 3 multiplayer beta this spring. But, according to today’s news from Microsoft, that’s not the only way gamers will be able to participate.
Gamers will be able to receive an invitation by doing one of the following:
- Playing three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer via Xbox Live between Feb. 1 and Feb. 3, and then being one of the first 13,333 gamers to register for the “Rule of Three” program at the Halo 3 Web site in February
- Purchasing a specially marked version of Crackdown, which hits shelves in the U.S. on Feb. 20
The Halo 2 multiplayer info is pretty straightforward, but here’s some more detail on the Crackdown promotion: some copies of the game will include an invitation to participate in the Halo 3 multiplayer beta. When the beta surfaces this spring, those owners of Crackdown (who have access to an Xbox 360 with a hard drive and a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription) can load their copy of Crackdown and use the disc as a key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace.
