Activision’s Skylanders series came out of nowhere to create a “toys to life” genre that took the video game world by storm, invigorated nascent toy collectors everywhere and inspired Disney to create a Disney Infinity game that feels quite similar but uses Disney franchises rather than original characters. It just so happens that at the E3 trade show, Skylanders has taken the video game world by storm as well, creating E3-exclusive Limited Edition toys that are only available to certain attendees. Their Limited Edition Skylander this year: an awesome custom-painted “Hot Dog” toy that works with Skylanders Giants and will be compatible with the upcoming Skylanders Swap Force game
The Skylanders Giants Limited Edition Hot Dog figure looks bronze or gold depending on how you move him at certain angles. This color-shifting Limited Edition Skylander was only given to E3 2013 attendees who played the Skylanders Swap Force game and won the demo. It was also available to the lucky few who, as we did, saw the game behind closed doors and spoke with the developers. Needless to say, it’s extremely rare and will never be available again now that E3 2013 is over. (See a photo of it here.)
Under normal circumstances we’d keep this E3 Limited Edition Skylander Hot Dog for ourselves. For reasons we won’t go into here, circumstances have changed, and we’re giving away our extra. You’d better believe we’re keeping one of these awesome toys for ourselves! A few notes for all those Skylanders collectors in the house: this E3 Limited Edition Skylanders Hot Dog toy is still brand spanking new, in its box with no bent corners, and has the 2013 E3 seal clearly shown on the corner. For what it’s worth, these things fetch a pretty penny on eBay, but we’re confident our readers will want to keep it for themselves. Presuming that’s the case, winning it for free would be a great way to save yourself some hassle and money. Again, it’ll never be available at retail, and was only available at the E3 trade show.
