Erie, Pennsylvania – The former software-sharing site administrator that was convicted of copyright infringement and served time in a federal prison has turned over a new leaf and is now developing legitimate iPhone apps. Scott McCausland, co-owner of The AppFlixion Group, has been spending his post-prison time developing software and has recently released his first app into Apple’s App Store. Bust A Caption+ 2.0 is an image captioning app meant to bring a little laughter to an otherwise heavy world.
It was a normal day on May 25, 2005 for most people in the world, but for computer guru and torrent site administrator Scott McCausland, it was the day that his life changed.
If anyone has ever had their door kicked in by armed FBI agents, they know how he felt that day. But McCausland wasn’t the typical criminal mind, he simply uploaded a movie to his torrent site to allow all of his users to download it for free. The only problem was that the movie was named Star Wars Episode III and it was uploaded several hours before the movie was officially released.
Fast forward seven years to a new day and a new plan. No more illegal uploads. No more jail time. No more doors being kicked in. Instead, McCausland is breaking into Apple’s App Store with his new app, Bust A Caption+.
Bust A Caption+, the first app released by The AppFlixion Group, follows a line of captioning apps that have been hitting the App Store over the past year. The popular apps allow a user to take pictures and have a random caption placed on them.
“We’ve all made mistakes,” said owner Scott McCausland, a software developer himself. “It’s not about the mistake, it’s about what we do with the knowledge we’ve gained from the mistakes that we’ve made. I hope I can inspire someone else to pick themselves up, learn from their past and follow their passion in life.”
Bust A Caption+ was released into the App Store on December 21, 2012. The entertainment-based app is the first in a series of planned releases for the small business.
