Warner Bros. Home Entertainment just announced a release date for I Am Legend on Blu-ray Disc: March 18. This action-packed movie follows the sole survivor of a viral apocalypse (Will Smith) and his daily struggle in the face of a horrible reality.
The DVD version will ship the same day, but Warner is making the unusual move of releasing the HD-DVD combo format disc on April 8. Another poke in the eye for HD-DVD, perhaps, which will lose Warner’s support in June? We can only speculate. Either way, you can click here to pre-order I Am Legend at Amazon.
What isn’t speculation is the lineup of bonus features on the I Am Legend Blu-ray Disc: the Theatrical Feature Film, an Alternate Version of the Film, and three additional pieces of content called “Animated Comics,” “Cautionary Tale” and “Creating I Am Legend.”
I Am Legend’s DVD counterpart will also appear in a Two-Disc Special Edition broken down as:
- Disc 1
- Theatrical Feature Film
- EC: Animated Comics
- ROM Link for Additional Exciting EC Online
- Disc 2
- Alternate Version of the Film
- Digital Copy (Theatrical Version)
Movie synopsis: Will Smith delivers a commanding performance as Robert Neville, Manhattan’s solitary survivor after a devastating virus eradicates the population’s majority and turns the remaining few into deadly, mutated hunters. After losing everything he knows and loves, Neville’s singular focus is to find a cure for the infection, regardless of the deadly risks at every turn.
Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague — The Infected — lurk in the shadows, watching Neville’s every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered … and quickly running out of time.
