2K Sports today sent retailers an early-week gift: copies of MLB Power Pros for Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2. The game’s launch marks the first time this franchise has been available to baseball fans in North America.
In MLB Power Pros, every Major League Baseball player and ballpark is represented in a distinct visual style that uses “mini models” of pro players with unique facial expressions and hairstyles. Think of it as a Mii, but licensed and with a few more polygons.
The gameplay modes in MLB Power Pros let players act as the general manager or as an up-and-coming baseball recruit. Through trades, extra practices and buying new equipment, players in the Season Mode manage every aspect of their team to bring in money, win playoff games and eventually win the World Series. In Success Mode, gamers become college players hoping to get recruited to the Big Leagues. Players train to build their skill sets while also balancing their academic and personal lives.
The Wii version also includes a few specific features, most notably the ability to hit and pitch by moving the Wii Remote in Home Run Challenge and Match-up Mode. Gamers can also import their Miis from their Wii or Wii Remote to take part in the game.
The Nintendo Wii version costs $39.99, while the PlayStation 2 version carries a price of $29.99.
