Watching movies is one of the common interests that many of us share. Watching movies that are part of a franchise is like a religion we follow. The dedication we show to the series throughout the years is mindblowing. Let’s talk about some of my favorites.
1. Harry Potter
You most probably can’t talk about best movie franchises and not talk about Harry Potter. The franchise has 10 films – 8 adaptations of the book series and 2 prequels. The craze created by Warner Bros. started with the first movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” which came out in 2001 and still continues to this day with the release of the latest “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” that came out in 2018.
The movies are based on the books bout wizard Harry Potter written by J.K. Rowling in the young adult genre. The books were a hit and that led to the movies being made. There are 7 books in the series and each book has a movie adaptation, with the final novel being split into two films, so in total 8 movies for 7 books. Not only that, after the series was wrapped up, J.K.Rowling came out with more content from the earlier history of the HP universe like the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them a sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
2. Star Wars
Star Wars has as crazy a fan following as Harry Potter. The craze that started long before Harry Potter was released. The first Star Wars movie came out in 1977. It quickly became one of the most memorable series in cinema history.
20th Century Fox created a franchise that has brought so many people together – fans of characters like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, R2-D2, and Yoda have been hooked since the start. So many people have taken on to cosplaying to look like their favorite characters.
It quickly became the highest-grossing movie of all time with the obvious interesting universe. With 11 films, dedicated fans can often be seen arguing which movie was better than the other.
3. The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games franchise created by Lionsgate is based on the book series by the same name written by Suzanne Collins. It is a teenager in a dystopian future who leads a rebellion against an oppressive government. The final book in the series, Mockingjay, was split into two films just like Harry Potter. Making four movies out of three books that had a combined worldwide gross collection of nearly $3 billion.
4. The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings franchise by New Line Cinema is based on the popular book series by the same name written by J.R.R. Tolkein. J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy epic trilogy is one of the best-selling novel series of all time.
The series revolves around the journeys of a group of small beings called Hobbits that set out to destroy a magic ring belonging to an evil Dark Lord. There are 6 movies in the franchise. The prequel to the lord of the rings, that is, The Hobbit was also turned into films, which not as successful as LOTR, they are still widely loved.
5. Marvel Cinematic Universe
This franchise by Paramount Pictures has to be the biggest we are talking about today. There are two movies released every year on an average, the count till date is 23 films in total.
Starting with Iron Man in 2008 and the latest being Spiderman: Far From Home in 2019. The franchise has continued to expand since the first movie, incorporating more quirky characters in films like Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.
