The last time we saw Star Trek: The Original Series, it was in a remastered Season One set on HD-DVD. Today Paramount announced that Season Two will be remastered this August…but with no HD-DVD format, it’s just left to DVD.
We can’t help but wonder, though: with Blu-ray now Paramount’s high-definition format of choice, with a BD version be on the way soon?
Regardless, on August 5, the $99.99 DVD set of Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two remastered will include footage remastered from the original camera negative, plus new digital visual effects and a new 5.1 soundtrack. The new computer-generated Enterprise is based on the exact measurements of the original model, while the original score by Alexander Courage has been re-recorded in digital stereo audio with an orchestra and new female singer.
And just for all you William Shatner fans out there, his 38-word “Space, the final frontier…” monologue that opens each episode has also been digitally remastered.
