The Child of Light release date is upon us, as Ubisoft has released Child of Light PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions into the wild. The game is available to download immediately on PSN or Xbox Live, respectively. Child of Light is also available for Wii U and PC.
All six versions of the game carry a price of $14.99.
Child of Light is a re-imagining of classic fairytales set against a picturesque background inspired by the watercolor artworks of The Golden Age of Illustration. Billed as “a playable poem,” Child of Light takes players on a journey through the mystical world of Lemuria by putting them in the shoes of Aurora, a young princess who must win back the sun, the moon and the stars held captive by the mysterious Queen of the Night.
If that sounds a bit ephemeral, it is. Child of Light PS4 owners, and all owners for that matter, will note the game’s return to the “classic JRPG.” Child of Light blends platforming with turn-based combat and includes a rich story that unfolds amid graphics that have a hand-drawn feel.
The Child of Light art was made possible through the use of Ubisoft’s new “UbiArt Framework,” a game engine that lets programmers and artists insert original concept art directly into the game world. In Child of Light, the result is a sort of feeling that you’re playing an interactive painting.
