Sony Pictures is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters and 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters 2 with a pretty sweet package. First is a theatrical re-release of the original film, fully remastered in 4K Ultra high-definition. Second is a nice Ghostbusters Anniversary Blu-ray Set that includes both films and a kick-ass Slimer statue.
The Ghostbusters Anniversary Blu-ray set will also mark the first time Ghostbusters 2 has been available on Blu-ray Disc.
Sony’s theatrical re-release of the original 1984 film will take place in more than 700 locations across North America beginning August 29 (Labor Day weekend). The limited engagement will only run for a short time. Although Sony has not yet specified how long that short time will be, it’s likely to just be a two-week period.
The reason for that is that Sony’s announcement release said “following the theatrical release,” the Ghostbusters Anniversary Blu-ray set will release on September 16. This set will include the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray, the Ghostbusters 2 25th Anniversary Edition, and on the Limited Edition gift set only, an exclusive collectible Slimer figurine and two-disc Digibook.

Both the Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 Blu-rays come loaded with exclusive bonus materials, including conversations with director Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, never-before-seen deleted scenes from Ghostbusters 2 and more the original music video of the Ghostbusters song by Ray Parker Jr. The Ghostbusters 2 Blu-ray disc will also include the original music video for “On Our Own” by Bobby Brown.
Ghostbusters will contain all previously released legacy content, commentary and an interactive Slimer Mode, offering fans a picture-in-picture graphical viewing experience.
