We’ve forgone posting most “ship day” news for the past couple of months, but today saw one announcement that’s compelling enough that we had to share: All-Pro Football 2K8 is now available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Today’s release marks the first time Visual Concepts has released a 2K football game since Electronic Arts nabbed the exclusive rights to the NFL license.
So what’s the catch here? Visual Concepts and 2K Sports are using retired players rather than active rosters. This means you’ll be able to play with Walter Payton, John Elway, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Reggie White and William “The Refrigerator” Perry, among others.
They won’t be playing for their “real” teams or in “real” stadiums, but if the gameplay and graphics are as great as the 2K series has been in the past, those factors shouldn’t detract from the game’s appeal in the least.
Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions carry a price tag of $59.99, bucking the less-expensive trend that 2K Sports had started with the previous version of the NFL 2K series.
