Watch Dogs Pre-Order Sales Break Record

May 23, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

With Watch Dogs set to release next week, Ubisoft is preparing for a record-setting launch. The publisher has announced that the Watch Dogs pre-order quantities have set a record high for the company for a new franchise. In addition, Watch Dogs is the second- highest pre-ordered Ubisoft game ever and the most pre-ordered next-gen game to date.

In other words, if you want to get-in on a trend, here’s an easy chance to do so. Just go grab your Watch Dogs pre-order now from Amazon, and wait at home for delivery to help Ubisoft make history.

Watch Dogs has been one of the most-anticipated next-gen games since its announcement just over one year ago. Initially the Watch Dogs pre-order bundles, for PS4 in particular, were among the next-gen consoles’ most popular. When Ubisoft announced the Watch Dogs release date had been pushed back to next week, millions of consumers were left wondering what game to hang their hat on last November.

Apparently the delay didn’t quell people’s interest in the game. Although Amazon and many other retailers simply downsized bundle-purchasers’ orders to a stand-alone console, would-be holders of a Watch Dogs pre-order clearly re-upped with their favorite retailer.

Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in the entire industry this year, according to Ubisoft. The publisher says it’s also the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date, beating advanced sales for Titanfall, BF4, Killzone and all other highly touted PS4 and Xbox One games.

The irony of these claims is that Ubisoft hasn’t divulged specific Watch Dogs pre-order figures. That’s akin to issuing a press release about pre-orders for the Phantom console topping PS3 and Xbox 360 pre-orders combined, only to eventually realize when official sales were tallied that it was a line of bull.

Fortunately Ubisoft’s got an ethical streak, so we’ll take them for their word on this one and wait for actual sales figures.

With the Watch Dogs release date just four days away, there’s still time to purchase the Watch Dogs Season Pass. Full details on what the Watch Dogs Season Pass includes are available here. At a high level, it provides players access to a unique single-player story, a new game mode, new missions, weapons and outfits. It costs $19.99.

Watch Dogs will ship next week, on May 27, for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. It will ship for Wii U “at a later date.” So, if you’re a Wii U owner and want to place a Watch Dogs pre-order, you can feel free to do so but there’s no telling when it’ll actually hit your mail box.
