In honor of the first anniversary of the Xbox 360 Games with Gold program, which debuted last June at E3 2013, Microsoft is giving gamers 50% more love. Rather than two games next month, the Xbox 360 Games with Gold June 2014 list includes three games.
Normally the Xbox 360 Games with Gold program entitles Xbox owners to a new free game every two weeks. In May, the Games with Gold program has included Saints Row: The Third for the second half of the month, while the first two weeks of May saw Xbox Live Gold subscribers getting Dust: An Elysian Tail.
With three titles on tap for the Xbox 360 Games with Gold June 2014 update, it’s unclear whether that model will hold true. More than likely one Xbox 360 game will be available for all four weeks, with the other two games in the June Games with Gold program alternating as normal.
The three games slated for the Xbox 360 Games with Gold June 2014 program are Dark Souls, Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. Dark Souls and Charlie Murder are considered the “core” games in the June update, so if one of the Xbox 360 Games with Gold June 2014 games does end up being available all month, it’ll probably be Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.
Since its launch one year ago, the Xbox 360 Games with Gold program has given free game downloads to more than 12 million people. Some Xbox Live Gold subscribers aren’t taking advantage of the program, while others are downloading on a monthly basis. All told, Xbox 360 owners have tallied nearly 200 million hours of time spent just with Games with Gold titles.
Having Super Street Fighter IV and Dark Souls on the Xbox 360 Games with Gold June 2014 list, that hour total’s bound to increase. Dark Souls has already seen its sequel come and go, but there are many gamers who never got the chance to play the original. Now they will. And while Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will always have its fans, the Games with Gold June 2014 update will give millions of other gamers the chance to try it out free of charge.
