Some of the highest-profile games on Xbox One and PS4 have focused more on plot than their predecessors. Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts are two prime examples. But it seems that narrative threads will get an increasing focus on the next-gen consoles, and the Xbox One-exclusive Quantum Break is a great example. A new video vignette from Remedy Games and Microsoft hints at the game’s focus on plot, but perhaps more important, it shows some Quantum Break gameplay footage.
Actual Quantum Break gameplay video has been hard to come by, which is why the new trailer is so compelling. The video relies largely on footage we saw at E3, but Creative Director Sam Lake does delve into the first narrative and gameplay details for the game. And, concurrently, shares the Quantum Break gameplay footage so sought since June’s trade show.
In the video, Lake describes the game as a sort of hybrid between a cinematic action game and a live-action show. This brings to mind the very real possibility that Quantum Break will see a considerable amount of post-launch DLC episodic content, but that’s pure conjecture at this point. Lake definitively describes heroes Jack Joyce and Beth Wilder, as well as antagonist Paul Serene. He also reveals new gameplay features such as the ability to play as both heroes and manipulate time.
Anyone remember Blinx, the time-manipulating cat with a vacuum? It’s very likely that Quantum Break will borrow some concepts from that original Xbox game, though they’ll surely be executed better and reflect next-gen hardware capabilities.
