After weeks of speculation and, frankly, months of hope among PS4 owners, The Last of Us PS4 port has been confirmed. Sony announced The Last of Us PS4 port is not only in development, but will see a release date later this summer. That means it’s farther along than even the most ardent of fanboys could’ve hoped for.

The Last of Us PS4 port is being called The Last of Us Remastered. Sony hasn’t confirmed all the “remastered” elements in store for next-gen gamers when The Last of Us PS4 release date arrives, but the company did divulge a few tidbits.

Chief among the updates is that The Last of Us PS4 port will has been remastered in full 1080p. That revelation alone lends fuel to the PS4 vs. Xbox One resultion debate raging for the past few weeks.

In addition to that 1080p remastering, Naughty Dog has created higher-resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting and upgraded textures. The Last of Us PS4 port will also include an exclusive director’s commentary for all in-game cinematics featuring Neil Druckmann, the game’s Creative Director and Writer; voice actor Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and voice actress Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.

The Last of Us Remastered will also include every major content release that the PS3 version has seen since release. For those who aren’t familiar with those updates, that includes the “Left Behind” single-player expansion, the “Abandoned Territories” multiplayer map pack, and a “Reclaimed Territories” pack.

That last bit is new, but Sony has been coy about what it entails. Naughty Dog’s official statement on it is that “details will be coming soon on exactly what is included.”
