The developers of Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock Studios, are teaming up with 2K Games for an Xbox One and PS4 shooter called Evolve that’s scheduled to ship later this fall. Evolve is a multiplayer shooter experience in a similar mold of the cooperative shooter classic Left 4 Dead.
Evolve blends cooperative and competitive multiplayer experiences as a team of four hunters face off against a single, player-controlled monster. Set on an alien planet in the distant future, Evolve has gamers hunt their prey in four-versus-one multiplayer matches.
Players experience Evolve as a first-person shooter when playing cooperatively as the four hunters. When controlling the monster, the game switches to the third-person perspective.
When playing as the monster, you’ll use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to kill your human enemies. Or, you can choose one of four hunter classes (Trapper, Support, Assault and Medic) and team up to take down the beast on the planet Shear, where flora and fauna act as an adversary to man and monster alike.
As you level-up in Evolve you can unlock new hunter or monster characters as well as upgrades, skins and perks.
The first monster included in the game is called Goliath. The game will have several squads comprised of four hunters, each with their own unique classes and abilities. You can read more in the February issue of Game Informer, apparently.
Evolve is available for pre-order beginning today at participating retailers. Gamers who pre-order Evolve from Amazon (you can do so here) will get the Monster Expansion Pack. This Evolve expansion pack will include the Savage Goliath skin at launch, as well as a new monster character as soon as it becomes available after Evolve is released.
Evolve will be available this fall for Xbox One, PS4 system and PC. No specific Evolve release date was revealed.
