The best way to describe Blur, a new game from the developers of Project Gotham Racing, is basically this: Blur is a gateway drug for everyone tiring of the kart-racing shtick. Having not heard too much about Blur prior to its release, I opened the box knowing only that it was developed by Bizarre Creations, the studio that made stylistic racing and Kudos synonymous with an awesome multiplayer experience. Really, what more did I need to know? Come to find out, a little more guidance would've been helpful. Blur takes … [Read more...]
Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review
It's unfortunate that the Wii I worked so hard to find at launch sits mostly unplayed for periods of time, but once in a while something comes out that makes this system shine. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of these games. The true sequel to Mario's first Wii outing is one of those titles that comes along once in a blue moon and thrusts the Wii to the forefront of my console list, pushing aside new titles like Red Dead Redemption with ease. Super Mario Galaxy 2 doesn't dwell on story, and yes the ol' cliche of Princess … [Read more...]
Iron Man 2 Review
Robert Downey Jr. has made plenty of good films and decisions in his life, but he's also made some pretty bad ones. Fortunately for him, not lending his voice to the Iron Man 2 videogame was not one of them. Coming off the heels of an impressive theatrical run but an underwhelming videogame adaptation, Downey was all but assured of returning for Iron Man 2 -- in both media. The movie sequel has performed relatively well, and to be fair, the videogame sequel shows some improvement over the original. But improvement does … [Read more...]
3D Dot Game Heroes Review
How often do you think back to the golden age of video games and long for the top down action that was The Legend of Zelda or the wandering of maps that Dragon Age brought to you on your NES? Short of either hooking up your classic system to your fancy new TV, or some other unscrupulous method -- playing these games was tough to accomplish. Sadly as we age, nostalgia also seems to polish the games in our past and set them on pedestals which, generally speaking, upon revisiting don't quite shine as much as we once … [Read more...]
Army of Two: The 40th Day Review
I was one of the few reviewers out there who really didn't have a big problem with the first Army of Two. Many people joked about its so-called homoerotic buddy system, but in reality those people were just hopping on a bandwagon that shouldn't have been launched in the first place. The only warranted jokes were those about the game's bad attempt at humor, as the first Army of Two bombed more opportunities for humor than Desert Storm blew holes in the sand. The gameplay had a few issues, most notably opponent AI with … [Read more...]
God of War Collection Review
By now the gaming masses have picked-up their copy of God of War 3, slashed their way through the eight-hour campaign and been awed by the graphics, gore and completion of the mythical saga. But about that saga: amazingly, there's still a fair share of next-gen gamers -- generally PS3 newbies -- who did not play the first two God of War games and may have been left scratching their heads at times in Sony's latest outing. Granted, a hack-and-slash game never really requires in-depth knowledge of a back story, but when … [Read more...]
