Klaipeda, Lithuania – Puzzle Lab announces the release of Charm Tale Quest 1.0, a logic game in which iPhone and iPad users have to make chains of colored gems to defeat unusual enemies in prolonged battle. The process is complicated by a moving game board that changes either at every turn or at your discretion.
The main character in the game finds treasure hidden at the bottom of the sea and tries through various means to defend it from the inhabitants of the undersea world, who also want to take their share. The goal of the game is to gather more gems than your opponent. With every level the number of colors increases and the chains get longer and longer.
The opponents – which include both ordinary sharks and fairy-tale newts – are quite smart and will force you to think through your moves several steps ahead. Make a small mistake, and your opponent’s gem collection will start to increase dramatically. You can impede his progress in a number of ways: earn an extra turn by ending your chain on a Shield, or take a few gems from him with the help of a Saber. To make use of these and other items, you need to collect additional objects and break open giant gems.
Because your opponent also knows these methods, the duel will occasionally seem like a prolonged chess match. After a while the game becomes a strategic battle in which there is a time for cautious defense and a time for unexpected attacks. A shifting game board brings surprises that require constant changes to your game plan.
The battle takes place in an undersea world whose beauty is conveyed with full depth of color by the Retina displays on Apple mobile devices. Gently floating gems and pleasant music contribute to a relaxing experience. Charm Tale Quest, despite its simple gameplay, will take you into its undersea world and not let you out until the very end.
