In celebration of this auspicious launch, DreamBrother Technologies is making Derby Manager a free download for a limited time only. In addition, the company is rewarding players with a seven day, lucky draw campaign starting July 10, where the company will give away one new iPad per day. Full details are available on the DreamBrother Technologies website (link below).

The richly detailed game allows players to select their own human avatar and move freely around the gamespace. Participants can visit the Horse Ranch, Message Board, Hall of Fame, or interact with other players using the Search or Ramble buttons. Another 3D, three-quarter, overhead view lets players visit the Horse Store (18 different horses available for sale or consignment), the General Store (20 different kinds of feed, potions, medicines, and permission cards; 10 different runes or magical objects that can be used during races; 36 different kinds of horse tack, equestrian supplies, and wings), The Mall (for exchange and purchase of gems and gold won in gameplay or gotten via an in-app purchase), and the Sales Office where details of all the player’s horses acquired by purchase or consignment are kept (maximum horses per player is three).
Players can evaluate and compare horses using a myriad of measures, and the complete background and performance of each animal can be reviewed on their Breeding Card. There are three lineages of horses: Wind, Thunder, and Fire. Each horse lineage has its own advantages, e.g., Thunder has quick acceleration and is fast out of the gate. The horse lineage can be chosen at the time of purchase and remains fixed. Horse quality is also based on age, grade, mood, energy value, recovery speed, sprint ability, and physical strength. All these factors play a role in the care and training of the animal and in the anticipated performance in competition. Race horses may become injured if raced too often, and they may also become too old to race. If any of their metrics cannot meet the standard to participate in a race, the horse will be retired forcibly.
Derby Manager players and horses may participate in any of three different kinds of races: Practice Races, Nearby and Engagement Races, and Official League Races. Practice Races allow horse and rider to gain experience, which will improve a horse’s chances in real-time races, plus win gold coins. Nearby and Engagement races enable players to set up the bonus, enable permissions for betting and random traps in track. Player can invite friends to participate, and these races also gain useful experience and gold coins. Players are allowed to use a maximum of three props in one race in an effort to influence the final results. Official League Races include the Silver League, Bronze League, Gold League, and Diamond League. These are the highest, official races. Each of the four Leagues has its own rules and requirements for competition.
Wagering on the results is permitted in Engagement and League Races. Payouts are determined automatically based on the calculated odds. League Races offer the opportunity to win special bonuses in gold coins or gems. Statistics of all Bets, Odds, Races, Start Times, Winnings, etc. are posted. Result statistics list horses in order of Finish, Owner, Winning Points, Bounty, Level, Experience Points, etc.
The races themselves are side-scrollers, and each of a maximum of six competitors can also move from left to right, independently. Exciting and unpredictable, there are several layers of side-scrolling animation: the foreground that is slightly out of focus and moves by quickly, the track where a maximum of six horse compete in lanes, and the background layers that move by more slowly, adding perspective. Digital readouts measure real-time performance of each horse, and players can use up to three props (potions, wings, runes, etc.) per race to help influence the results.
“Select from 18 different horses, which differ in bloodlines and classes (from E to S),” commented Nancy Xiong of DreamBrother Technologies. “There may be an ultimate horse in a million. Tap the horse card to view specific information.”
