The first gesture-recognition game for iOS, Kinetic Defender, is now available on the App Store, a first-person shooter for one to four players. Kinetic Defender uses AirScreen Motion Recognition technology rather than the touch or tilt controls often used for iPad and iPhone games. The advanced motion recognition technology, effective at distances of 1-10 feet, allows players to enjoy gameplay on a large-screen TV via the game’s AirPlay mirroring capability.
Here’s how it works: after simple calibration, the front-facing camera of the iDevice follows the movement of the player’s palm, which is held up toward the screen. The onscreen weapons reticule/targeting window responds to the movement of the user’s hand, destroying incoming meteors and missiles aimed at Earth.
Kinetic Defender Feature Highlights:
* AirScreen motion recognition technology revolutionizes mobile device gaming
* Front-facing camera of the iDevice follows the motion of the player’s hand
* Single player or multiplayer modes
* Maximum adaptability to changes in lighting
* AirPlay compatible for large screen gameplay
* Share Gallery photos on Facebook and Twitter
At launch in landscape orientation, Kinetic Defender offers both single- and multiplayer modes. Players can take a photo or use a stored image as their avatar. The game accommodates up to four players who take turns defending the Earth from deadly meteors, missiles, and other dangers. Among these enemies are power-ups that must be followed until the targeting window makes a full turn, rewarding players with special abilities which increase attack power and defense. Players score points for destroying threats and bonus points for combos.
The targeting window leaves a visible trail as it moves, and players can take note of their skill in quickly moving from target to target. An inset window at the top of the screen displays the front-camera view of the player’s hand, with an overlay of vertical and horizontal tracking outlines. Kinetic Defender captures photos to its Gallery during gameplay, which can be easily shared via built-in Facebook and Twitter connectivity.
As Fernando Correa of Diwit stated, “We are creating a new way to interact with mobile devices using AirScreen technology, and Kinetic Defender is just the beginning.”
