With version 6.0 of the popular Movie Clock app for iPhone, Flickdirect Inc. has developed a new tool to gauge moviegoer excitement surrounding upcoming Hollywood films. By analyzing the users social interaction surrounding each movie, an anticipation score is assessed and displayed within the app.
Movie Clock is the first app to allow simple social interaction based on upcoming movies. Users can set reminders for films and share with friends, check in when they arrive at the theater, and post comments about their favorite movies with other fans while on the go.
Originally developed as a way for moviegoers to keep a catalog of reminders of upcoming movies they want to see, Movie Clock has grown and evolved into the premier app for social media interaction as it relates to the world for film.
“The new anticipation meter was a natural next step once thousands of eager movie fans were interacting in the app” said Eric English, lead developer of the app. “It’s actually really interesting to see the anticipation score rise as fall as the film gets closer to release or other more popular films are announced.”
Plans for the anticipation meter are to enhance it to predict box office take as well as make recommendations to users on which films they might enjoy based upon their past interactions.
“With the anticipation meter we really hope to create a standard for fans and studios alike to gauge interest in upcoming movies and ultimately for it to connect the studios and fans in order to make better movies that people want to see” said English.
Other features of Movie Clock include a location aware in-theater check-in system, ability to follow friends movie likes and interests, in-home and in-theater reminders and calendar integration, and creating conversations with other fans about favorite films. Extended features of Movie Clock include the ability to find show times for local theaters based on your GPS coordinates, in-app ticket purchasing and streaming movie trailers.
Movie Clock has a growing database of Movies with current release dates up to 2016. Previous versions of Movie Clock were named one of the Top 9 Movie Apps by NextMovie and have been featured in iTunes “Whats Hot- Entertainment” category. Movie Clock has reached as high as #2 on the iTunes top charts in the entertainment category.
