Random House Digital Launches Catch the Berry

October 17, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

Random House Digital, a leading publisher of eBooks and mobile applications, today launched an innovative, physics-based mobile game, Catch the Berry. Available exclusively on the App Store (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) at the introductory price of $1.99, “Catch the Berry” features 80 challenging levels for players to navigate.

Catch the Berry features:
* A unique real-time line drawing concept built to help the game’s hero, Huckle, catch magical berries and collect gems
* A sandbox/”free play” environment where players can draw, change and erase lines as well as interact with objects within the level
* 80 different levels, which become fiendishly more difficult and challenging to complete as the game progresses
* Diverse characters, sound effects and animations

Catch the Berry was developed in conjunction with Smashing Ideas; the game was the product of a team-wide competition that produced seventeen game concepts. Catch the Berry was selected between two finalists based on the fun storyline, new use of physics-based game mechanics and a style of play that would appeal to young and “seasoned” gamers alike. The team selected to create the game had 47 collective years of experience designing and developing games on multiple platforms, from online to mobile.

“Growth in mobile gaming has exploded and as a newcomer to this category, we knew we had to create a unique experience that would challenge even the most experienced puzzle gamers,” said Randi Rosenkranz, Vice President, Digital Development at Random House Digital. “We assembled an all-star team of mobile gaming vets and spent 18 months in development to produce Catch the Berry. The game introduces a brand new gameplay dynamic to puzzle aficionados and we hope players find it both challenging and rewarding to solve.”

Random House and Smashing Ideas have developed a wide range of popular apps, from George R. R. Martin’s A World of Ice and Fire to Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat – Color & Create! to Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking (named “Best of the App Store 2012”). “We leveraged the expertise and collective accomplishments of the team to develop Catch the Berry and created a new standard of fun and challenge for mobile puzzle game enthusiasts,” said Brian Burke, President, Smashing Ideas.
