The first persistent mobile MMORPG for Apple devices is now available in the App Store for free. Called Shadow Cities, the iPhone MMO can also be played on an iPod Touch equipped with WiFi, because it uses location-based technology to augment reality and create a global gaming arena. Shadow Cities can be downloaded here.
Shadow Cities brings traditional MMO and RPG features to the iPhone such as a deep leveling system, PvP and PvE combat, and new missions and activities every week. On top of those traditional elements, Shadow Cities for the iPhone includes a location-based system that transforms players’ real-life cities and neighborhoods into the game, letting them engage in a variety of activities from drawing runes to cast spells on their enemies to communicating and planning attacks with friends in their area.
The MMO app offers the choice to fight on the side of the Animators or Architects, two opposing schools of magic locked in a struggle for power and control. Players will engage in epic battles around the world, casting a variety of spells by drawing magical runes on the iPhone or iPod touch in their very own neighborhoods and cities to dominate key strongholds and defeat their enemies.
As players move around in the real world, their position in the parallel world of Shadow Cities will also move, revealing both new friendly and enemy players, spirits, traps, neighborhoods as well as many other things for players to interact with. To create a truly global experience, portals can be opened in cities anywhere that allow friends and allies to move between locations and take part in full-scale virtual battles.
The Shadow Cities App builds upon traditional role playing systems and concepts, offering a deep leveling system that allows players to customize their character by learning spells and developing attributes. Players will have the option of instantly replenishing their power after engaging in combat by purchasing potions to refill their mana.
