Remember when a certain open-world game caused parents, Congress and several national governments to scream in disgust? Those days seem far behind us, with sex and violence now the virtual norm. In light of that, I wanted to go counter-culture and celebrate not the release of GTA 5, but the triumph of the best family game of 2013 so far: Disney Infinity. This Disney Infinity review may be late, but it’s intentionally so. I wanted to see whether this new franchise in particular continued its momentum well after launch. … [Read more...]
New Disney Infinity Figures Listings Appear Online
Disney Infinity has stormed the "toys to life" gaming scene, putting some heat on Activision's billion-dollar Skylanders franchise to avoid resting on its laurels. Disney Infinity has won us over with its mix of creative toys, well-designed levels, intuitive world-building tools and pantheon of well-known franchises. Oh, and the prospect of new Disney Infinity figures hitting retail pretty regularly. Like, say, this October and November. The D23 Expo earlier this summer saw the early and exclusive release of an … [Read more...]
Bad Reviews for The Lone Ranger: Will it Hurt Disney Infinity?
Disney’s The Lone Ranger opened in theaters last night, with poor reviews surfacing today and a surprising amount of apathy rearing its ugly head for Disney’s would-be summer blockbuster. According to early box-office reports, Despicable Me 2 opened with more than twice the ticket sales of The Lone Ranger, showing that even Johnny Depp can be susceptible to animated yellow blobs. And if the number of bad reviews increases for The Lone Ranger, from TheHDRoom and other outlets, Disney’s film may see lower overall weekend … [Read more...]
Disney Infinity Figures and Play Sets Overview Video
We've taken a look at many of the Disney Infinity figures and play sets coming scheduled to ship with the game later this summer, including The Lone Ranger play set, the Cars play set, the Davy Jones figure and the Barbossa figure. In this video overview, we take a look at all of those Disney Infinity figures and play sets together, including Randy from Monsters Inc. The difference between Disney Infinity figures and play sets is subtle but meaningful. A figure is just that: a single, solitary toy that will work with … [Read more...]
Disney Infinity Cars Play Set Video Preview
In the days following E3, we've been discussing the newest toys-to-life craze in the videogame world: Disney Infinity. Borrowing a page from Activision's Skylanders games, the latest of which (Skylanders Swap Force) we'll be previewing extensively soon, Disney Infinity uses real-life toys that can be placed on a portal so that figure appears in the game itself. Because it's a Disney game, Disney Infinity has a host of franchises from which to pull, giving it infinitely long legs in entertainment potential. Yesterday … [Read more...]
Disney Infinity Davy Jones Figure Toy Unboxing Video
One of the busiest booths at E3 2013 was Disney Interactive, largely because of their t-shirt press but also because of Disney Infinity, a new game a la Skylanders where real-life toys can be placed on a portal to have that figure/character appear in the on-screen game. I’ve long been a fan of the Disney Parks and Pirates of the Caribbean, so I was eager to see what Disney had up its sleeve for those franchises in Disney Infinity. Lucky me, I got to see Captain Barbossa and Davy Jones. I was fortunate enough to walk … [Read more...]
Disney Infinity Capt. Barbossa Toy Unboxing Video
One of our initial stops at E3 2013 was the Disney Interactive booth to see Disney Infinity, a new game a la Activision's Skylanders in which players can place a real-life toy on an NFC-enabled portal to have that toy appear as a playable character in the game. The Skylanders games have been two of my kids' favorite games in recent years, so they put me "on assignment" to see Disney Infinity -- which I was intending to do anyway. After all, as a big Pirates of the Caribbean and Disney Parks fan, I was eager to see … [Read more...]
Disney Infinity – Exclusive E3 Lone Ranger Gameplay Video
We had the good fortune to party with Disney Interactive on Sunday night, just two days before E3, to learn more about Disney Infinity and take a walk through the in-game worlds of The Lone Ranger (revealed late last week) and Monsters University. Before the event, Disney was generous enough to let us watch the first 37 minutes of the upcoming Monsters University film, as well as a 15-minute clip of The Lone Ranger, because both films provide great backdrops and characters for the Disney Infinity game. After watching … [Read more...]
