It’s appropriate that Carnival Games: Monkey See Monkey Do shipped for Xbox Kinect less than six months after the gesture-sensing peripheral’s release. The original Carnival Games released when the gaming masses were still getting their arms around (or shall I say “moving with”) the Nintendo Wii and its then-new motion controls. The game hinged on players making simple motions to achieve a variety of equally simple objectives, and by and large the result was fun. With the Xbox Kinect, however, 2K Play had a bit more … [Read more...]

The image of Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoying their first public kiss was one of the year's most iconic scene for millions of people worldwide. Yoostar 2 Review
Back when DVDs were still new, an entire generation of would-be actors and actresses popped-in their favorite movies and performed classic scenes as if they were the ones in front of the camera. Meanwhile, Scene It! board-game fans tested their Hollywood mettle by recalling lines, actors and actresses from the silver screen. Fast-forward to 2011, though, and DVDs and board games have been overshadowed by the Xbox Kinect, which when combined with Yoostar 2 represents a creative outlet for an entirely new generation of … [Read more...]

Fantastic Pets Xbox Kinect Review
As the Xbox Kinect evolves from a peripheral of promise to one that actually delivers, fewer buzz terms are getting thrown around describing the experience. So when THQ used “augmented reality” to describe the gameplay of Fantastic Pets for Xbox Kinect, I was both intrigued and skeptical. On one hand, using a buzz term is often a gimmick to hide other shortcomings, but in some instances it’s the only way to communicate a new mechanic. In the case of Fantastic Pets, it’s actually a little bit of both. Fantastic Pets … [Read more...]

PowerUp Heroes, Full-Body Combat Game, Coming Exclusively to Kinect
The Xbox Kinect has hit somewhat of an engagement doldrums, with only a few games taking advantage of what Microsoft's powerful hardware seems capable of doing. Ubisoft hopes to change that with a new Kinect-exclusive game unveiled today called PowerUp Heroes. PowerUp Heroes is slated to ship worldwide this June. PowerUp Heroes is a full-body combat game that lets players transform their avatar into a custom superhero. Fantastic Pets Ships for Xbox Kinect, Debuts “Augmented Reality”
There's a new pet game on the Kinect block, as THQ today shipped Fantastic Pets to give Microsoft's Kinectimals a run for its gesture-controlled money. Fantastic Pets gives players the chance to interact with their would-be pet animals in a unique new way: through "augmented reality." Although it sounds gimmicky at first, THQ's augmented reality technology could very well bust through the ceiling that many Kinect games have hit in terms of not really pushing the gesture-sensing hardware. Using augmented reality, the … [Read more...]
