Gamers are now used to the whole “season pass” concept first introduced by the Gears of War series to deliver discounted DLC. The latest franchise to use that approach is Warner Bros.’ Batman games, as the publisher today unveiled a Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U versions of the game.
The Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass will be available immediately upon the game’s Oct. 25 launch. It will cost $19.99 but actually be ‘valued’ at $30, since it will allow people who purchase it to five of the game’s upcoming downloadable content packs.
Details for the overall content packs are below, but be mindful that the Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass relies heavily on skins, two of which are exclusive to the Season Pass. So, if you don’t really care what your Batman looks like, you may want to skip the pass and instead purchase the content you most want.
Players who purchase or pre-order the Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass will gain access to five DLC packs. The first of these packs includes a Gotham by Gaslight Batman Skin and Brightest Day Batman Skin. The second DLC includes a New Millennium Skins Pack, followed by a third pack that contains an Infinite Earths Skins Pack.
The final two packs included in the Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass arguably contain the more-compelling content. The first is called Arkham Origins Initiation, in which gamers can play as Bruce Wayne before he became Batman and face his final test to prove himself worthy to his greatest teacher, Kirigi. The fifth and final part of the Batman Arkham Origins Season Pass is an all-new story campaign, although Warner Bros. hasn’t yet shared details about what that campaign entails.
Batman: Arkham Origins tells an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.
