PlayStation 3 owners today know exactly when they’ll be able to get their hands on BioShock, most gamers’ game of the year last yer: October 21 (in North America; it’s Oct. 24 in other territories). You can pre-order it here at Amazon: BioShock for PS3.
Although BioShock is coming to PS3 a year after the Xbox 360 and PC versions, 2K Games isn’t just porting over the same game. In addition to including all the Xbox 360 downloadable content being in the PS3 box, 2K Games is also introducing a new “Survivor” difficulty level, support for Trophies and a new mode called Challenge Rooms.”
Challenge Rooms are actually similar to Portal, but with a BioShock flair. Rather than use gravity and portals, for instance, players will use specific plasmids to solve puzzles. At E3, we saw one rooms in which the main player needed to rescue a Little Sister from the top of a ferris wheel, but the only way to do so was to use an electric plasmid to “shock” the engines back to life, and a telekinesis plasmid to move items that would activate levers and switches.
Of course, all of this needed to be done while being attacked by Splicers and other enemies from the depths of Rapture.
