The original Call of Juarez was a fantastic Old West shooter with the best voice-acting of the current generation of consoles, great graphics and a few gameplay flaws that held it short of achieving All-Star status. Ubisoft apparently hopes to change that last bit, as it has officially announced the first details for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.
Like the original, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood takes place in the Old West, but this time transporting them from a ravaged Civil War-era Georgia to the Aztec ruins of Mexico. Players will embody both McCall brothers in an intense storyline full of greed, lust and lawlessness that takes place during a legendary period of American history.
Developer Techland has included a host of gameplay enhancements over the original Call of Juarez, including the ability to use more weapons, from revolvers to heavy-caliber cannons and machine guns.
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood will also include “Dual Collaborative Gameplay,” aka co-op play, as players can choose to be either Ray or Thomas, each with a distinctive gameplay style (close or long range), specific abilities (lasso, dynamite, etc.) and arsenal of weapons (dual guns, long-range carbine, etc.). This will be combined with a new multiplayer mode in which multiple characters can be unlocked for team-based objective modes or team deathmatch. There’s also a new Bounty system, which lets players increase the bounty on their head by racking up more kills.
In terms of plot, the McCall brothers will face a renegade Apache Chief, a greedy Mexican bandit, a vindictive Colonel and others, all driven by greed with moral disregard. Because the characters and scenarios will vary so widely, the game will include a variety of situations using horses, canoes and even wagons.
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is slated to release for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 this summer.
