Disney Infinity – The Lone Ranger Play Set Toy Preview

With just a few weeks before The Lone Ranger hits theaters (and Johnny Depp tries to pull off Tonto), now’s a great time to discuss the Disney Infinity Lone Ranger Play Set, which we got to play at Disney Interactive’s E3 booth. The game world included in the play set will provide a host of activities, but in this video preview, we’re taking a look specifically at the figures / toys included in the play set.

As with other sets that go with the Disney Infinity game, which ships later this summer, the Lone Ranger play set includes two figures and an iconic toy representative of the franchise that the figures come from. In the Cars play set, which we previewed here, Lightning McQueen and Holley were accompanied by a Piston Cup. In this play set, the Lone Ranger and Tonto are accompanied by a triumvirate of six-shooter, tomahawk and sheriff’s badge.

The gun/tomahawk/badge toy, when placed on the platform that comes included in the Disney Infinity Starter Pack, unlock the Long Ranger world in the game. The world is designed for the Lone Ranger and Tonto figures to run around doing various tasks such as defeating outlaw enemies, delivering water to a farm, making repairs to the train, or compete in target-practice and racing competitions. However, that’s not to say other Disney Infinity toys can’t be used in a game with Lone Ranger elements via the Toy Box Mode, such as playing as Davy Jones or Barbossa in an Old West-themed world.

In addition to the game world, the Lone Ranger play set will also open up some Lone Ranger-related props and gameplay elements for the Toy Box mode, which is this game’s version of a level-builder and platform to upload user-generated content to Disney’s servers. You might unlock a jail, a train, some Western-themed level decorations or any number of appropriate items, all of which fit the Lone Ranger vibe to a tee.
