LucasArts announced today that an official demo of the action game Fracture will release on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network next week, on September 18. That marks a big week for LucasArts, as The Force Unleashed will be shipping to retail two days earlier.
The Fracture demo will introduce players to the concept of “Terrain Deformation,” a gameplay mechanic that allows players to use weapons that can alter and even create land on-the-fly to defeat enemies, create cover and reach otherwise-unattainable areas.
In the demo, players will use Terrain Deformation to guide Atlantic Alliance soldier Jet Brody in his quest to quell the Pacifican uprising. The single-player campaign of the full version begins in the now-dried-out San Francisco Bay and traverses the ravaged country. Presumably, this first level is where the demo kicks off.
When the game ships, players will also be able to participate in multiplayer modes for 12-player battles in which Terrain Deformation is paramount to success. All those people altering the landscape? Yep, that sounds crazy to us.
Fracture will release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 7 in North America and on October 10 in Europe.
