Battlefield 4 launched with a bevy of issues that EA and DICE have been chipping away at solving since the game’s release. The latest round of updates has released in one fell swoop today, as DICE announced its massive Battlefield 4 Fall Update has gone live.
The Battlefield 4 Fall Update affects all versions of the game: PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
There’s no denying DICE has thrown a bunch of resources into this fall update. The developer had to split its forum post into several different posts just to let people take it all in. However, there are a few areas that seem most important to note.
First is a series of changes to the game’s core. These include improving player movement so BF4 feels more like Battlefield 3 and reducing the visual recoil of guns so all weapons except iron sights, IRNV and FLIR move less upon being fired.
The High Frequency Network Update has also been added to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions and is set to default. This makes the server update the client on what is happening with greater frequency, resulting in a smoother, more-accurate player experience.
The BF4 netcode has also seen several tweaks in this Battlefield 4 Fall Update, making it “the fastest in the franchise’s history, according to DICE.
One of the neatest parts of the Battlefield 4 Fall update is the addition of “Classic Mode.” This new preset reverts the rules on those servers to Battlefield 2/3 levels, so only skilled players looking for more of a challenge and seeking stricter rules should apply. That’ll be a nice change for the hardcore BF fans and newbies alike, as it will allow a bit more segmentation in playlists and expertise.
One element that’s new in Classic Mode, for instance, is the ability to spawn on only the squad leader, increasing the challenge and need for greater tactical thinking as a squad leader.
The in-game HUD has also bee streamlined to make it more intuitive by default, though you can now even adjust the UI to your liking. For instance, you can change settings for the in-world icons that are visible when aiming down the sights.
These are the most immediately tangible changes, but there’s really a lot more that went into this BF4 update. The complete roster of tweaks, fixes and enhancements in the BF4 Fall Update can be found here.
