MLB 14 The Show Ships for PS3, Vita; Coming to PS4 May 6

April 1, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

Depending on your favorite baseball team, Sony’s shipping MLB 14 The Show just one or two days after your team’s MLB Opening Day results are in. MLB 14 The Show, the company’s flagship baseball game, is available today for both the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. MLB 14 The Show for PS4 will ship in just over a month, on May 6.

Sony’s MLB The Show series is the highest-rated sports video game of the past eight years, based on Metacritic scores. But that doesn’t mean Sony’s resting in the development dugout. For its 2014 outing, the company’s MLB game has made several improvements to its already-winning formula.

MLB 14 The Show includes more than 50 updates and new features including the much-demanded ability to carry over saves year after year in subsequent versions of The Show. The 2014 version also includes Quick Counts, which reduces the time required to play a full nine-inning game; an Online Franchise mode; and a revamped Road to The Show experience.

MLB 14 The Show for PS4 will include all these same updates, as well as some extra features that only the next-gen console can offer. For instance, MLB 14 The Show for PS4 will deliver what Sony claims are “photo-realistic stadiums and lifelike player models,” as well as four times the texture resolution and improved lighting.

In addition, the PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show will be more socially intertwined than previous iterations, as will its PS3 counterpart. The game this year introduces a new Community Challenges feature that lets players customize game situations and scenarios on the fly. Among the options are setting the inning, determining the score, deciding who’s on base and even where the ball is hit. These custom scenarios can be bundled with a creative set of goals and put forth as a challenge to the community, whether it’s to relive the past, change history, or dream of new possibilities.

MLB 14 The Show is available today at local retailers, on Amazon and via digital download on the PlayStation Store. The PS3 version costs $59.99, while it’s $39.99 for PS Vita. MLB 14 The show for PS4 will ship May 6 for $59.99.
