2K Sports today announced details on “Living Rosters,” a new online feature for NBA 2K9 that will essentially compete with EA’s Dynamic DNA. Living Rosters will ensure gamers are playing with the most up-to-date basketball data, with constant updates being uploaded to player ratings and player tendencies, as well as unlockable animation packages for players in the game.
When a player starts to heat up and takes his game to the next level on the real-life courts, new animation packages will unlock for that player in the NBA 2K9 video game. Also, as the real-life NBA season progresses, so will NBA 2K9, as players will have the ability to pull off new moves, adapt their offensive and defensive rotations based on real-world tendencies and shift their starting lineups as they occur in real life.
Here’s how it works: When the Living Rosters feature is activated and a gamer signs-in online via Xbox Live or PlayStation Network, NBA 2K9 will automatically check for Living Roster updates. Gamers will have an option to either have Living Rosters automatically update their in-game roster information, or they can choose to download new roster data manually.
Once Living Rosters has successfully completed an update, NBA 2K9 fans can then review the different player and gameplay updates from the NBA 2K Insider, a real person poring over the stats and spreadsheets and ultimately being the one responsible for the content and accuracy of the Living Rosters updates. The Insider will also interact with the online community and listen to roster update suggestions, taking some of them into account in future updates.
