It’s been well documented that the Xbox 360 runs a bit hot, to the point that — in all seriousness — the Xbox 360 here at DailyGame can literally keep the room five degrees warmer than any other. The PS3 has similar issues, although much less severe. Either way, if you’re looking for a way to keep your home console (and thus your gaming environment) cooler, Nyko today released a device that aims to do just that.
Nyko’s new Intercooler TS line of bolt-on cooling devices features “TempSmart” technology that measures console air temperature and regulates air flow through the console. In essence, think of it as a new bolt-on fan, but one that actually monitors the real-time temperature.
Available for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Intercooler TS has been specifically designed to each console. The unit clips onto the back of the Xbox 360 or PS3 and features powerful fans that move hot air away from the console. The new TempSmart technology automatically controls operation. In addition, a separate AC adaptor has been added to provide an independent power source, allowing the Intercooler TS to continue running and cooling the console’s sensitive components even after the console has been powered off.
The PlayStation 3 version includes its own customizable cooling control with variable fan speed to help reduce noise while watching Blu-Ray movies or achieve maximum cooling at full speed during marathon gaming sessions.
We’re not sure how noisy the Intercooler TS is, but it can’t be any louder than the Xbox 360 is by default, right?
Nyko’s Intercooler TS for PS3 is in stores now for $34.99, while the Xbox 360 version will set you back $24.99.
