Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Coming to DS, PSP

May 26, 2009 by Sara Leave a Comment

LucasArts is bringing back the Star Wars Battlefront series, this time via a PSP and DS game called Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. The galactic campaign will ship this Fall for both Sony’s PSP (PlayStation Portable) and Nintendo’s DS. No word on whether it will support the camera features of the DSi.

Most notable with Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, players will for the first time in the Battlefront series be able to fight on battlefronts both on the ground and in space. Players can start the fight on foot, commandeer a vehicle to battle on the ground or dogfight in space, and land their craft to fight on capital starships.

The plot of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron will encompass the full Star Wars saga, with players taking on the role of a clone trooper created from the DNA of a Jedi Master. Originally tasked with eliminating the Jedi during Order 66, the dear clone trooper joins the Rebellion — but he/she isn’t the only Force-sensitive clone.

The PSP version will also provide deep customization options, allowing players to personalize their character down to the weapons their characters carry into battle, their armor, their species, gender, appearance and physical strengths. Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron on the PSP will also support 16-player multiplayer, complete with in-depth stat tracking.

On the DS, players will “customize” their character via a class-based experience system that allows them to outfit their characters with pre-determined weapon armaments. The DS multiplayer will support four-player skirmishes and a new “Heroes and Villains” mode.

Players will be able to assume the role of classic Star Wars characters including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Kit Fisto and Darth Maul. The battles, meanwhile, will take place on memorable Star Wars planets including Endor, Hoth and Yavin 4.
