Nintendo is uploading a pretty diverse mix of games today to its WiiWare and Virtual Console services. Strong Bad (from the popular Homestar Runner Web series) makes his WiiWare debut today, while a satirical space-age shooter and billiards game appear on the Virtual Console.
The WiiWare game, Strong Bad Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner (1,000 Wii Points), sees Strong Bad’s first entry in Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, a monthly five-episode series. In Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner, Strong Bad’s plans to beat the snot out of Homestar backfire, and he ends up with an unwanted house guest cramping his style. Now he needs to get life back to normal by any means possible. The game includes Teen Girl Squad comics, achievements, funny costumes and arcade games, and players can even send pictures and messages to their Wii Friends using Strong Bad’s computer.
The first of today’s two Virtual Console games, Break In (700 Wii Points), is a TurboGrafix 16 game in which up to four players can play pool. Choose from six billiards games including 9-Ball, Rotation and Carom (a game played without pockets). The game includes a Simulation mode in which players can calculate the perfect shot, and an Action mode in which players can review what went wrong with their missed shots. There’s also Technique Mode to practice angles or even go for a trick shot.
Meanwhile, Star Parodier (900 Wii Points) is a spoof of the classic Hudson shooter Star Soldier. In this parody, there are three playable ships for players to choose from: the PAROCEASER, the BOMBERMAN, and the PC-ENGINE. Players control one of these unique ships and set off to blast their way through eight stages on the planet Paroson. In addition to the normal game mode, this Virtual Console version also includes the familiar two-minute and five-minute attack modes.
