The holidays are here, and you’re wondering how to get your hands back on Civ IV, which has been calling your name during the entire shopping season. 2K Games has a good idea: show the world what you can do to customize Firaxis’ strategy game in a new Civ IV modding contest (here’s the link).
Dell and 2K Games are teaming up to give the winners one of five brand new XPS machines (four desktops and a laptop). To win these systems, just deliver your best modding work in any of the following four categories:
- Best In-Game Asset (art including units, buildings and/or wonders)
- Best World-Builder Scenario (just a single .wbs file)
- Best Map Script (just a single .py file)
- Best Educational Mod (only educators and schools can submit entries for this one)
The creator of the winning entry in each category will receive a Dell XPS desktop computer. In addition, the best overall mod from the submissions above will receive the grand prize of a Dell XPS laptop.
The contest begins December 23, 2007, and will run through February 18, 2008. It’s only open to residents of the United States. Some other things to remember: prizes are awarded to individuals only, so if your mod is a team effort, the prizes will only be awarded to the designated team leader. You can use existing mods that you’ve already created, or you can create something from scratch using Civ IV or any of its expansions. And of course, don’t submit mods that are not your own, original creations.
