The PS3 has Gran Turismo, and Microsoft has Forza Motorsport, but Atari this fall will join the racing-sim game with RACE Pro, an Xbox 360-exclusive racer announced this morning.
RACE Pro is being developed by SimBin, a company known for its PC-based racing simulators, so you know it’s going to be deep on customization and realism. Powered by SimBim’s proprietary physics engine “Lizard,” RACE Pro for Xbox 360 will include “ultra realistic” car models as well as official FIA championships and tracks.
In addition to a career mode, RACE Pro will include Xbox Live multiplayer for up to 12 people.
Although Atari did not release a car count, they did share with us that RACE Pro will include cars ranging from 200 to 1000-plus horsepower, as well as a host of championships including WTCC (World Touring Car Championship), Formula 3000 and Formula BMW. In terms of manufacturers, GT cars from Aston Martin and Saleen will join production cars such as the Audi R8 and Dodge Viper SRT10. In addition, RACE Pro is exclusively bringing all the WTCC cars from manufacturers Alfa Romeo, BMW, Chevrolet and Seat to Xbox 360 for the very first time. There will also be a “Mini Cooper Challenge,” although details weren’t shared as to what that entails.
The 13 real-world tracks will cover all continents, with Macau, Porto and Pau being exclusive tracks to RACE Pro. And yes, U.S.-based tracks Laguna Seca and Road America are included as well.
