Microsoft today confirmed what most of the Internet already knew: a black Xbox 360 with HDMI output and a 120GB hard drive is headed to a retailer near you. However, it’s release date is closer than we’d anticipated: April 29 in North America.
The Xbox 360 Elite, which is what the high-end console will be called, will retail for $479.99 and include a black controller. Black wireless controllers will be sold separately for $49.99.
For those gamers who don’t want the Elite’s HDMI output and sexy black case of the Xbox 360 Elite, the larger hard drive will also be sold separately — for $179.99 — allowing gamers to simply “strap on” the larger hard drive to their current Xbox 360.
A far more interesting question about the HDMI begs to be asked, though, and for that, we refer you to our column about Microsoft perhaps losing confidence in HD-DVD.
