Sure, lots of gamers are stoked about Soulcaliber IV coming out this summer. But if you own an Xbox 360 and are less than enthused for that game’s release, rest assured that there’s a new fighter on the way this holiday season: Battle Fantasia.
An Xbox 360 exclusive, Battle Fantasia is being created by the development team that created the popular Guilty Gear franchise. The game will use RPG-style elements and blend them with fighting gameplay as players do battle with 12 cel-shaded characters illustrated by Emiko Iwasaki. The battles themselves, meanwhile, will play out in high-definition 3D environments.
In addition to online play via Xbox Live, Battle Fantasia will include a console-exclusive Story Mode for each character. Although each character’s story is still under wraps, we do know a bit about the overall story of the game:
The world was once engulfed in darkness, with humans forced to fight six battles to save their world. Unfortunately, we lost every one. All hope was lost … until the darkness was driven back by the swords of four heroes.
Although light returned to the world, the planet was divided into two countries: The Magic Kingdom and the Steam Empire. Rumors began to spread that the darkness was returning, so warriors from around the world came to fight. However, some of them had very personal reasons for fighting, which is where the individual characters’ campaigns come into play.
