Although the crazy week of E3 2014 is designed to showcase the next-gen prowess of the PS4 and Xbox One, some companies are using the annual trade show to highlight the consoles’ full range of capabilities. And by that, I mean their ability to go “old school” with games such as the Tetris Ultimate PS4 and Xbox One game that Ubisoft just announced.
Tetris Ultimate is the evolution of the world’s most-loved puzzle game. The game will be available for digital download on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this summer to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Tetris.
In addition to the Tetris Ultimate PS4 and Xbox One version, a PC version is also in the works. The PC iteration will be available this fall. It’s not often to see a console game be a timed-exclusive on multiple platforms, but so be it.
Tetris Ultimate details are somewhat scarce at the moment, though we may see more of it at E3 this week. Ubisoft has promised “exciting modes, fun features and unique visuals,” as well as the ability for one to four players to face-off in six different game modes.
So, what are the Tetris Ultimate game modes? At least we know that much. They are Marathon, Endless, Ultra, Sprint, Battle and Power-Up Battle. What each mode entails is still to be announced, though their names are generally pretty indicative.
