The second Cowboys vs Redskins 2013 game couldn’t pit any two different teams against one another. Dallas stomped the Redskins last time they played, a 31-16 victory on Oct. 13. Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) threw for 246 yards in that game, so while coach Mike Shanahan’s decision to shut down RG3 for the season was already controversial, RG3’s absence from today’s Cowboys game could be especially big. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo didn’t play well in that game, passing for only 170 yards a week after unloading for 506 against Denver.
In today’s Redskins game, Romo will have to avoid turnovers like those he had last week against the Packers if the Cowboys are to avoid another heart breaker. Frankly, though, that no-turnover mantra seems to be a regular thorn in Romo’s side, especially when the Cowboys are making a playoff push.
It’s actually in Dallas’ best interest for Romo to hand the ball to running back DeMarco Murray rather than throw it to wide receiver Dez Bryant. The Cowboys running game is solid, with Murray averaging 5.5 yards per carry for the season. That’s not to say the Dallas Cowboys defense has been stellar. The Redskins may not run the zone-read with Cousins, but he’s more comfortable in the pocket and will run a lot of bootlegs to test the Cowboys defense, particularly the linebackers and corners.
