Street Supremacy Review

March 18, 2006 by Sara

Years ago, the Tokyo Xtreme Racer franchise was top dog on the Dreamcast. There was nothing so fun as racing around a city at night, flashing your headlights at challengers and ripping through dark highways to become supreme ruler of the streets. It was a good game that spawned a plethora of knock offs. Street Supremacy for PSP is developer Genki's attempt to bring their much-loved series to Sony's handheld - but sadly, the translation and time have been unkind to the core game, and in the end, it's just not fun.The … [Read more...]

Pursuit Force

March 6, 2006 by Sara

There's a school of thought among videogame developers, one of which being Bungie, that believes the secret to creating an enjoyable game is identifying five minutes of intense, fun gameplay and re-creating it over and over and over again in slightly different surroundings. Doing so, according to these developers, ensures that the game will include lots of classic moments and, if all goes right, become an instant classic. But what happens when that formula goes wrong? Enter Pursuit Force, a new racing/chasing game for … [Read more...]

Ape Escape Academy

March 5, 2006 by Sara

What is it about monkeys that makes people crazy? From Super Bowl ads to Hollywood movies to handheld and console videogames, monkeys and their outrageous hijinks never make for bad entertainment. Well, almost never. You see, the new PSP game Ape Escape Academy does darn near everything it can to debunk that theory for good. The basic premise of Ape Escape Academy is for players to hop into the diaper of an ape in training. Through a series of college-like "courses," players learn how to protect bananas, smack other … [Read more...]

Daxter

February 27, 2006 by Sara

One of the PlayStation 2's dynamic duos, Jak and Daxter, has been an inseparable combination for several years, but even in the world of videogames, all good things must come to an end. Fortunately, with the forthcoming PSP game Daxter, the creativity behind the series still appears to have some life in it. Daxter for the PSP is the first game to feature Jak's sidekick as its solitary star, but it fits into the combined story of the characters by serving as the prequel to Jak II. In the game, players will see how Jak's … [Read more...]

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror

February 19, 2006 by Sara

After playing a recent preview build of Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for the PSP, I must say that the game holds a lot of promise for fans of the stealth-action genre, regardless of the fact that it's appearing on a handheld system. Not only does Dark Mirror feature a single-player campaign with 28 missions, putting most of the console-based stealth games to shame, but it also has online multiplayer action. Add some bonus unlockables, and there's a whole lot of Syphon Filter to look forward to on the PSP. The multiplayer … [Read more...]

World Championship Poker 2

January 28, 2006 by Sara

Poker was first widely played in New Orleans in the early 1800s and quickly spread throughout the Western frontier. Back in those days, poker was mostly popular on riverboats and in saloons. Nowadays poker is everywhere. There are pocket-sized poker video games; online real-time poker tournaments, and who would have thought we would now be able to turn on our TVs and watch other people play poker? Of course, there are also full-featured poker videogames for PC and home consoles, the latest of which is Crave … [Read more...]

Pinball Hall of Fame

January 10, 2006 by Sara

Back in the "day," Gottlieb manufactured some of the best and most memorable pinball machines ever made. There was a time when almost every corner drug store or grocery store had at least one pinball machine. And you'd better believe I found every one in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, the golden age of the pinball machine has come and gone. But it is most certainly not forgotten. And thanks to the developers at Farsite and the publishing team at Crave, we can now carry around 13 of Gottlieb's classic tables in our … [Read more...]
